This map reflects the beginning of an investigation into public assets and the "commons" of the Kreuzberg area of Berlin. The parcels shaded here reflect land and buildings that are shared City resources.
Some things you can do:
~ Click on the orange (land) and blue (water) shapes to see what we already know about current use, status and ownership of these areas. You will also see some photos of signs we put on the grounds themselves with the same information that is on this website; we think it's super important to include people in the neighborhoods who may never see an online map in the discussion about the disposition of their local public assets.
~ You can use the layers tool to see these places sorted by their owners.
~ The square indicators with flames on them show an area is in danger of being taken out of the "commons" and privatized. Click the square for more details about the risk.
~ The teardrop indicators each represent a grassroots initiative working to keep the area in common hands, either through government ownership, a new community organization or overseeing the actions of a company organized to serve the public good. Click the teardrop for more details about the initiative.
