Capo di Ponte. Giovan Pietro venne chiamato a Crema dai frati agostiniani per affrescare il refettorio del loro convento, la cui costruzione era terminata nel 1497. La decorazione venne realizzata nel corso di alcuni anni a partire dal 1498 e termin\u00f2 nel 1507 come testimonia la data, ripetuta pi\u00f9 volte nel fregio sottostante l'Ultima Cena. Nel 1797 con la soppressione della chiesa e del convento le pareti del refettorio vennero coperte di catrame fino a met\u00e0 altezza, compresa la parte inferiore della Crocifissione, mentre il resto venne scialbato (Fiorentini, Redaelli 1990, pp. 64, 92). Gli affreschi tornarono alla luce solo nel 1953. Tra il 1971 e il 1973 sono stati strappati sia gli affreschi con l'Ultima cena e la Crocifissione che le sottostanti sinopie. Gli affreschi sono quindi stati montati su telai in alluminio e riappesi nella loro collocazione originaria, mentre l'Ultima cena \u00e8 integra e completata da due fascie inferiori con candelabre, la Crocifissione si compone di tre parti a sviluppo verticale. Le sinopie invece sono state arrotolate su rulli di legno e cos\u00ec conservate, finch\u00e8 nel 2005 sono state affidate a Marina Baiguera per un intervento di restauro. L'iconografia del ciclo decorativo \u00e8 piuttosto complessa: sui lati brevi sono raffigurate l'Ultima Cena e la Crocifissione di Ges\u00f9 che alludono al sacrificio eucaristico. La parte superiore dei lati maggiori presenta un fregio condotto con una estrema variet\u00e0 di motivi che va dalla ripresa del bas de page da foglio miniato ai fregi con puttini, tritoni, delfini e foglie d'acanto, recuperati da qualche stampa mantegnesca, alternati a medaglioni monocromi con i Re d'Israele caratterizzati da una potenza scultorea che trova corrispondenza nei rilievi dell'Amadeo e in Agostino de Fondulis. Al di sopra, all'interno di lunette, troviamo ventidue personaggi dell'ordine di Sant' Agostino, i Magistri sacrae paginae, proposti ad incarnare valori didascalici e morali: sono raffigurati in attivit\u00e0 speculative (leggono o scrivono), uno sovrintende ai lavori di costruzione di una chiesa per questo \u00e8 stato tradizionalmente identificato con Gian Rocco de Porzi, primo abate e promotore della edificazione della chiesa e del convento di Crema. I frati sono modellati con un rilievo molto forte, dal contorno netto, i volti sono connotati da una forte astrazione geometrica che denuncia gli ultimi orientamenti di Da Cemmo (Bramantino, Zenale, Civerchio). Nella volta troviamo in ventiquattro tondi a monocromo (fingono bronzo e pietra, materiali imperituri come gli exempla) con storie dell'Antico testamento: Creazione di Eva, Cacciata dal Paradiso, Il Diluvio universale, La Torre di Babele, La fuga di Loth da Sodoma, Benedizione di Giacobbe e primogenitura di Esa\u00f9, Il sogno di Giacobbe, Mos\u00e8 salvato dalle acque, Banchetto vetero-testamentario (Pasqua ebraica?), Idolatria di Salomone, Salomone e la regina di Saba, Il giudizio di Salomone, L'angelo sterminatore, Mos\u00e8 e il serpente di bronzo, La consegna delle dodici tavole a Mos\u00e8 e l'adorazione del vitello d'oro, Mos\u00e8 prega in cima ad una collina mentre gli ebrei sconfiggono gli Amaleciti, Mos\u00e8 fa scaturire l'acqua da una roccia, Il Passaggio del Mar Rosso, Il Sacrificio di Isacco. Queste scene sono caratterizzate da una tecnica diversa affine a quella delle miniature: i panneggi sono rialzati con tocchi di biacca, le figure sono allungate e smagrite, la mimica \u00e8 forzata, lo stile sciolto e fluido. Purtroppo le sue opere pi\u00f9 importanti, all\u2019esterno del Palazzo della Meridiana a Genova e in Palazzo Marino a Milano, sono molto degradate per l\u2019usura degli agenti atmosferici o completamente distrutte per i bombardamenti della Seconda Guerra Mondiale.
